Most "top solar companies in India" lists mix up panel makers, utility-scale giants and rooftop installers, and few say how they ranked anyone. This guide is different. It is built on independent data: the Crisil Bridge to India ranking of who actually installed the most rooftop solar in India over the last year.

Disclosure: SustVest is ranked #5 in the project developer list covered below. We have kept every company profile factual, dated and sourced, so you can check it yourself.

Key takeaways

  • India had 35,739 MW of rooftop solar installed as of 30 June 2026, after adding 13,261 MW in the 12 months to June 2026.
  • Roofsol is India's #1 rooftop solar project developer for the second year running, with 22% of OPEX additions.
  • Tata Power is India's #1 rooftop solar EPC contractor, with 13% of all rooftop capacity installed in the year.
  • Roofsol and Enerparc are the only companies on both lists, ranking among the top project developers and the top EPC contractors.
  • The market is very fragmented. The top 10 EPC contractors together installed less than a fifth of new rooftop capacity.
  • Homes drove the boom. Residential made up 67% of new rooftop capacity, helped by the PM Surya Ghar scheme.

Who are the top solar developers in India in 2026?

Short answer: Roofsol is India's #1 rooftop solar project developer in 2026, followed by BECIS, Enerparc, Fourth Partner Energy and SustVest.

The Crisil Bridge to India Top 10 project developers chart for June 2026 names eight companies. Here they are, with each company's share of OPEX capacity added in the year.

RankDeveloperShare of OPEX additions
1Roofsol22%
2BECIS (BE-CIS)9%
3Enerparc6%
4Fourth Partner Energy4%
5SustVest3%
6candi solar3%
7Evolve Energy0.9%
8Kalpa Power0.1%

What "project developer" means here: In this ranking, a project developer is a company that installs rooftop plants it owns, under the OPEX model (also called RESCO, renewable energy service company). The customer pays nothing upfront and buys the solar power, usually for many years. Crisil Bridge to India sized this OPEX market at 300 MW for the year ended June 2026.

Together, the eight named developers installed about 48% of OPEX capacity. The rest (51%) came from smaller players.

Who are the top 10 rooftop solar EPC companies in India in 2026?

Short answer: Tata Power is India's #1 rooftop solar EPC company in 2026, a position it has held in every June edition since 2022. SolarSquare, Sunkind India and Roofsol follow.

An EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) contractor designs and builds the plant. Usually the customer owns it under the CAPEX model.

RankEPC contractorShare of rooftop capacity installed
1Tata Power13%
2SolarSquare*2%
3Sunkind India0.6%
4Roofsol0.6%
5Solarium Green Energy*0.5%
6Freyr Energy0.5%
7Panasonic0.4%
8Enerparc0.4%
9Australian Premium Solar*0.3%
10Solar Ace Energy*0.3%

*The report marks these companies as players whose tracked capacity was installed only under the PM Surya Ghar scheme (the government's home rooftop subsidy programme).

The EPC market is far bigger than the OPEX market. EPC contractors installed 13,261 MW in the year, against 300 MW of OPEX. It is also far more fragmented: outside Tata Power, no EPC contractor crossed 2% market share, and "Others" accounted for 77% of the market.

Two companies appear on both lists: Roofsol (#1 developer, #4 EPC) and Enerparc (#3 developer, #8 EPC). Both build plants for clients and also own plants themselves.

How does Crisil Bridge to India rank solar developers?

Short answer: By rooftop solar capacity actually installed during the 12 months ended June 2026, measured in AC megawatts.

Crisil Bridge to India is the clean energy research arm of Crisil, a company of S&P Global. Its India Solar Rooftop Map comes out twice a year and is one of the most widely cited sources on India's rooftop solar market.

A few things make this ranking useful:

  • It counts installed capacity only. Announcements, signed contracts and project pipelines do not count.
  • It covers one year at a time. Rankings can move fast, because a company is only as high as its last 12 months of installations.
  • It separates owners from builders. The project developer ranking covers OPEX plants a company owns. The EPC contractor ranking covers plants a company builds.
  • It cross-checks its data. Crisil Bridge to India collects data from developers, equipment suppliers and state nodal agencies and cross-references it with government data where possible.
  • "Rooftop" includes on-site ground systems. The report classifies all on-site solar systems, including ground-mounted ones at a consumer's premises, as rooftop.

What does the 2026 data say about India's rooftop solar market?

Short answer: India's rooftop solar market is growing faster than ever, driven by homes, while costs keep falling and growth spreads beyond Gujarat.

Here are the headline numbers from the June 2026 Rooftop Map.

MetricValue
Total rooftop solar installed (30 June 2026)35,739 MW
Added in the 12 months to June 202613,261 MW
Residential share of additions67% (8,873 MW)
Industrial share of additions29% (3,856 MW)
Commercial share of additions4% (533 MW)
OPEX share of additionsabout 2% (300 MW)
Corporate EPC cost (typical 500 kW system, Q2 2026)₹31.89 per Wp
Residential EPC cost (typical 5 kW system, Q2 2026)₹37.32 per Wp

1. Homes are now the engine

Residential rooftop additions in the year (8,873 MW) were larger than the entire residential base installed up to June 2025 (8,008 MW). Most of this came from PM Surya Ghar. That is why four of the top 10 EPC contractors installed their tracked capacity only under the scheme.

2. The OPEX model is a small, specialist market

Only about 2% of new capacity was installed under OPEX, down from a 13% share of all capacity installed up to June 2025. OPEX plants are typically larger C&I systems, where the developer has to fund the plant and take on long-term performance risk. That makes it a much smaller market, served by a handful of well-funded specialists.

3. Costs have fallen sharply

Corporate EPC costs fell from a peak of ₹52.39 per Wp in Q2 2022 to ₹31.89 per Wp in Q2 2026, a drop of about 39%. Residential costs fell from ₹61.29 to ₹37.32 per Wp over the same period. The report credits softer module prices and more competition. These estimates include GST and import duties.

4. Growth is spreading beyond the leaders

Gujarat (7,715 MW) and Maharashtra (7,028 MW) remain India's biggest rooftop solar states, followed by Uttar Pradesh (3,115 MW), Rajasthan (2,654 MW), Kerala (2,132 MW) and Tamil Nadu (2,089 MW).

In home rooftop solar, Gujarat's share of the national base fell from 64% in June 2024 to 29% in June 2026 as other states caught up. Uttar Pradesh's share rose from 9% in June 2025 to 13%.

Rooftop vs utility-scale: who are India's largest solar developers overall?

Short answer: If you mean the largest solar developers of any kind, the list is led by utility-scale players like Adani Green, ReNew and NTPC. Rooftop solar is a separate market with different leaders.

India's solar market has two very different halves:

  • Utility-scale developers build large solar parks, often hundreds of MW each, and sell power to DISCOMs (power distribution companies) or large buyers. As of 30 September 2025, JMK Research ranked the top developers by installed and pipeline capacity as Adani (40.5 GW), ReNew (22.9 GW), NTPC (16.9 GW), Greenko (15.4 GW) and JSW.
  • Rooftop developers and EPC contractors build plants on, or next to, the building that uses the power: a home, factory, hospital or campus. Plants range from a few kW to a few MW.

If you are a business or homeowner looking to cut your own power bill, the rooftop companies in this guide are the relevant ones.

How do you choose a rooftop solar developer or EPC company?

Short answer: Match the company to your model (OPEX or CAPEX), then check its track record, financial strength and long-term service.

1. Decide OPEX or CAPEX first.

  • OPEX (RESCO): zero upfront cost. You pay per unit of solar power. The developer owns and maintains the plant. Look at the project developer ranking.
  • CAPEX: you own the plant and claim the savings and tax benefits yourself. Look at the EPC contractor ranking.

2. Check installed track record. Rankings based on installed capacity, like Crisil Bridge to India's, are a better guide than marketing claims. Ask for a list of live plants and references in your sector.

3. Check financial strength. Under OPEX, the developer funds your plant and must be around for 15 to 25 years. Look at investors, lenders and the assets it manages.

4. Ask how the plant will be maintained. Who cleans the panels, who monitors generation, and how quickly are faults fixed? What does the contract say if generation falls short?

5. Compare quotes on the same basis. Use per-watt cost (CAPEX) or per-unit tariff (OPEX), the same module and inverter class, and the same warranty terms.
